Benefits of a Vision System

What are the benefits of using a vision system?

Vision guided robotics can help with increased food safety and quality inspection.

What are the obstacles to accuracy when using a vision system?

Size of defects to be detected and product rates.

In your opinion, what type of packaging poses the biggest challenge for these systems?

With metal foil packages, it can be difficult to see surface defects.  These types of packages also make it difficult to see through for X-ray technology.

How can vision systems be altered to be conducive to the product?

It is most important to have clearly defined limits and types of defects to be detected.

Since the launch of FSMA, how have new vision systems responded to the changes?

You now see systems with faster and higher resolutions.

What recent advances have you seen with this technology?

Deep learning.  Deep learning technology uses neural networks which mimic human intelligence to distinguish anomalies, parts, and characters while tolerating natural variations in complex patterns. In this way, deep learning combines the flexibility of human visual inspection with the speed and robustness of a computerized system.

What should a processor consider before buying a vision system?

Be realistic about what the technology can and cannot detect.
